“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going”
2006 – A Year of New Beginnings
This was the year my sister moved to Spain, and I began dreaming of living abroad. At 18, I started my first job at Vivo, a telecommunications company in Porto Alegre, Brazil. It was also a time of sudden responsibility, as my mother couldn’t afford to keep our home. She moved in with her brother in a house they inherited from their mother, located in an isolated area near the coast of São Paulo. This wasn’t an option for me, as I was about to begin university. For the first time, I truly felt the absence of family support. So as I was also in my first relationship we decided to move together to cover the bills.
2007 – New Family and Life Challenges
This year I met my best friends, who became my new family and they are to this day like my sisters for anything and everything. During this time I also started a two-year course in Information Systems in the Federal University, attending classes in the mornings while working the rest of the day.
It was a challenging period; the area I worked in was unsafe and I experienced traumatic events when the store was robbed multiple times.
At 21, I enrolled in university to study Business Administration, attending classes in the evenings while still completing my course in the morning and still working.
During this time I also went through my first major breakup; looking back, we were far too young to be living together. Thankfully, my best friends were there to support me during this difficult time, as I had to find a place to live on my own. This event made me step up and take more responsibilties early on.
2010 – Career Progress and New Relationship
I completed my Information Systems course and secured a job at a marketing agency, working 9-5, then attending university from 7-11 pm. I started gaining confidence as a marketing analyst, marking the beginning of my career growth in the Advertising industry.
One of the happiest moments was buying my first car, a Peugeot 206 in 2011. I had always been passionate about cars, something I got from my Dad and his passion for Senna. So my first car really felt like my first personal achievement, I was thrilled!
In 2012, I transitioned to a new job at another marketing agency in a more senior role. Around the same time, I entered a new relationship, which brought much-needed love and emotional support into my life.
I became proficient in web analytics and began lecturing at digital marketing events to over 50 people, which was a big step in expanding my professional network and sharing my experience.
2015 – Education and Self-Discovery
After graduating from university, I created a Google Analytics Intense 5days course to help others understand how to use the tool for website performance. At the same time, I embarked on a two-year MBA in Marketing at FGV. One year into my MBA, I started teaching summer courses at a renowed marketing university, ESPM.
My second long-term relationship ended, just a year after we got engaged, ushering in an unexpected era of being single, which would last for eight years.
I was then introduced to personal development books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad and books by Tony Robbins, sparking a transformative self-development journey. After attending a three-day immersion event was life-changing, and it led me to hire a coach to help plan the biggest decision of my life.
2017 – The Big Leap
With 28 years old, no European passport, no financial family support, and intermediate English, I managed to get a job offer with a work visa at a marketing agency in London within eight months. It was the biggest accomplishment of my life, a testament to the power of unwavering belief, determination and resilience.
Read my article here for full details of this journey.
2018 – Adapting to a New World
Even though I was living my dream, 2017-18 was one of the most difficult years of my life. Adapting to a new country, culture, and the demands of an English-speaking workplace was overwhelming. I struggled to adjust to the fast pace of London, the new environment, and even the weather. My finances were tight, I was living in very tiny room of 8.5 square meters in a student building in Willsden Junction and I also suffered a serious ankle injury. It felt like everything was a challenge.
Looking back I wished I had found a mentor to guide me through this journey.
2019 – Professional Growth
Still single and trying to save money, I decided to share a flat with two other girls. Professionally, I made significant progress when I was promoted to a Senior Client Partner role for Jaguar Land Rover, a british automotive brand that I was so excited about and that would make me dream of buying a Jaguar F-Type.
This new role was a big achievement in my career, considering I was a data analyst before and moved to a senior leadership position. This was due to my professional commitment, dedication to always go above and beyond for my clients and for my continuos self-improvement journey.
2020 – Facing Uncertainty During COVID-19
Then COVID-19 hit, and the lockdown in London for over a year was an entirely new way of life. Working from home was tough, and I was placed on furlough for two months due to the economic impact. I was afraid of losing my work visa and being forced to return to Brazil. Not to mention the news with all the death incidents, feeling worried for my family and friends in Brazil, unable to do anything; it was a really hard time for everyone.
2022 – Rising Up
But as they say, “it’s always darkest before the dawn”. As the world emerged from the pandemic, I celebrated a significant milestone—completing five years in the UK, which allowed me to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. I could finally call England my home as I became entitled to live in the UK for as long as I live and get the British citizenship. And that also meant a new British flat, as I decided to move and rent by myself in West Kensington. I was very proud of mself, as it was a beautiful flat in a very nice central area of London, I couldn’t believe it!
With no longer needing a work visa, I set my sights on a new career goal: working at Amazon. The interview process, with six stages, was one of the hardest I’d ever faced, but I applied everything I’d learned from Tony Robbins, and it paid off.
In 2023, after joinnig Amazon I became part of the top 2% earners in England which allowed me to buy the car I was dreaming of buying for years, the Jaguar F-Type. As someone passionate about cars this became my anchor for everyday motivation.
And it was during this time that I also I met the love of my life. It felt like it was all falling into place after so many years of resilience.
2024 – A New Purpose
In 2024, at 35 years old, I got engaged and we have now a puppy, Luna, as the new member of the family. I couldn’t be happier :)
As I reflected about my personal & professional journey up to this point, I started to feel an inner calling for something more meaninful; So I decided to attend Tony Robbins event, Unleash the Power Within in Germany, which was very a magical experience to me. I had many breakthroughs and I realised I was ready to start a new journey, this time to help others.
Now, I’m beginning a new chapter of my life, dedicating myself to becoming a mentor and a career coach, with the purpose of helping others who also want to pursue life and career transformations to make their dreams come true.
There are no shortcuts to success; you have to go through the journey and experience the challenges firsthand. Every step, every hurdle, is part of the growth. However, you can certainly be more prepared and equipped to face those challenges with the right guidance. Having someone who has walked a similar path can provide valuable insights, helping you avoid unnecessary pitfalls and stay focused on your goals.
While the journey is yours to take, you don’t have to go it alone.
